About Us
Five Oaks Bed & Breakfast
Welcome to our wildlife friendly B&B, just a short stroll from the beach and the picturesque town of New Quay. Nestled in a serene woodland setting, our cosy accommodation offers the perfect blend of nature and comfort, inviting you to unwind and relax. Enjoy a simple, wholesome breakfast made with locally sourced ingredients wherever possible, and take in the views of the surrounding landscape – the perfect mix of wooded river-valley, fields and coastline. Whether you're here for a weekend getaway or a longer stay, our friendly hospitality will make your experience truly memorable.

Five Oaks is situated within approximately six acres of land, consisting of paddocks, mixed deciduous woodland and river. From our woodland gate, you can walk to the nearest beach within five minutes, while New Quay itself is only a thirty-minute walk, or five-minute drive.

We currently have three alpacas at Five Oaks - Pip, Inca & Claude, and have re-homed three hens from a local family with an overly-interested puppy - Ginger, Cinnamon and Daisy. We will be expanding our feathered family in the coming months, with a view to fully meeting the egg requirements of our guests and ourselves with eggs as fresh as they come!

OUR ETHOS
We aim to consider the environment in all we do, ensuring that Five Oaks is as environmentally friendly as possible. We can offer you a guilt free trip away, safe in the knowledge that your visit is impacting the planet as little as possible. We ask you to buy into this ethos and throughout your stay to play your part.

We will provide all the towels and hand soap you could possibly want, but you already have toiletries perfectly suited to your needs at home, so we ask that you bring these with you. This will eliminate the use of single-use toiletries that are so common in hotels nowadays, not to mention all that non-biodegradable packaging! Don't worry though, if you do forget to bring shower soap, shampoo or conditioner, we have a selection of eco-friendly bars available for purchase once you are here.

The ingredients for our simple, wholesome breakfast, will be sourced locally and plastic free wherever possible, including seasonal tomatoes and greens and fresh fruit from our growing beds and orchard, and eggs from our Five Oaks flock of hens.

We tend to minimise the time that our heating is on, but for the cold mornings and nights we will run it to take the edge off and can use our wood burner to supplement this in the colder months. We are in a wonderfully sheltered spot, thanks to the surrounding trees, but the coastline itself is often breezy, especially if you might fancy a boat trip or a walk along the Coastal Path. Layers are therefore advisable, especially a waterproof outer shell. We do ask that outdoor shoes be left in the porch, so you might find a pair of indoor shoes, slippers or thick socks come in handy, too. If temperatures are low, or on request, we provide a cosy, fire-lit evening courtesy of the wood-burning stove. The logs to fuel this come from our own storm fallen trees, which we dry and split on-site to ensure the wood is well-seasoned, thus minimising carbon emissions when burnt. We have a series of oak saplings, grown from local acorns, which we plant out to fill gaps in our woodland canopy and replace any trees which are felled due to disease.

We respect and nurture our land to the benefit of the local wildlife that flourishes onsite, cutting walkways through the longer grasses and wildflowers which support our native pollinators and butterflies, as well as providing habitat and cover for small mammals, birds, etc. Various bird feeders provide birds with extra food during the colder months, and at night the grasses below these are regular foraging spots for our local badgers and even the occasional fox, which are partial to peanuts and sunflower hearts! We encourage you to go out, observe, admire and record the wildlife, but please treat it with respect and never disturb it. The landscape and the wildlife within offer ample subjects for photographers, artists, crafts-people and naturalists, in search of inspiration and nature-watching opportunities.
